Intermittent Fasting: Week 1 Results

IF (intermittent Fasting) Method: 16:8 (stop eating by 6pm at night, break fast at 10am-12pm the next day) + one 24 hour fast per week (Wednesday). Note: I do enjoy 1 cup of organic coffee with a splash of organic full fat whipping cream each morning – yep, it’s called “dirty fasting”, I know! However, I’m still under 50 calories so my fast isn’t broken.

Starting weight, 3/17/22: 222 pounds

End weight week 1, 3/24/22: 220 pounds

Foods: I ate healthy for the most part (I did have a donut and an ever so slight love affair with mini ice cream sandwiches this week) and broke my fast each day with organic steamed veggies or any other natural source of fibrous, nutrient dense foods that would offer my body and mind nutrition and not shoot my glycemic index through the roof!

I sometime still struggle with a sweet addiction here and there, but I’m ebbing away from that lifelong behavior. As a child, I learned to “cope” with my emotions by eating sweets (I can hear my beloved late great-grandmother in her Italian-English saying, mangiere (eat), mangiere (eat), you’ll feel better). I’m now learning to deal with my emotions in healthier ways. 🙂

Exercises: I continue doing my joint mobility routine almost daily. I follow up (almost every day) with a 15 or 30 minute HIIT(High Intensity Interval Training) workouts for women over 50 – there are many to choose from on YouTube! I’m feeing great! 🙂 In the evening, I’m going to begin implement a combo of relaxing yoga – love Yoga with Adriene!

Other health improvements: one of my other recent health issues was Onychomycosis, otherwise known as toenail fungus – couldn’t believe it, but it was true. The toenail on my big toe on my right foot had begun to turn white and crumbly along the edge a few months ago. The deterioration made its way about halfway down my toenail – eeeek! I scourged the internet and tried anti-fungal toenail ointments, but to no avail. Good news – my nail bed was still in tact underneath. About 2 weeks after taking DIM, my toenail began its regrowth and is healthy again – YAY!

Educated Guess: DIM helped detox my system (perhaps it was a case of candida?) One of the functional medicine doctors I consulted with (and I have read this numerous times from credible medical sources) said I needed to detox and it would rid me of this condition – she reported that toe nail fungus is an internal imbalance and a proper detox usually suffices. Indeed, it was true! 🙂
